Project: Roman Building Design
This project was set in Roman times, with the objective of designing a building based on Roman architecture. The task was straightforward, but it offered a unique opportunity to explore and incorporate the iconic features of Roman design. I chose to focus on a Roman bath spa, which allowed me to experiment with the distinctive shapes and forms that define Roman architecture, such as arches, vaults, and domes. The process of designing the bath spa was particularly enjoyable, especially when it came to creating the spatial layout and the flow of the structure. I had a lot of fun working on the design, exploring how the different rooms and features of the bathhouse could be integrated to create a functional and visually cohesive space..
During the concepting phase, I wanted to push the boundaries of traditional Roman bathhouses by adding a unique, organic twist to the design. The idea was to create a space that blended both historical accuracy with an element of fantasy, making the bathhouse not just a place for relaxation but also a magical experience. This design direction led me to imagine a two-story bathhouse, with the second floor offering a more elevated experience, like a peaceful sanctuary suspended above the bustle below.
The concept evolved further when I incorporated a magical element—a magic mirror. This enchanted feature would allow people to teleport between rooms, adding an element of wonder and convenience to the traditional bathhouse experience. This mirror would not only be a functional element within the design but also a mystical object, seamlessly blending into the building's organic structure while offering a whimsical touch to the overall atmosphere. The final result was a bathhouse that felt both grounded in Roman architecture and elevated by its magical charm, a place where ancient rituals and supernatural wonder coexisted in perfect harmony.
Overall, I really enjoyed this project—it was a fun and creative learning experience. One of the most valuable aspects of this project was learning to work with perspective and floor design, especially in terms of balancing functionality with aesthetics across multiple levels. Designing a two-story structure presented some unique challenges, but it helped me gain a stronger understanding of how to design spaces that feel both cohesive and immersive.
Ultimately, this project helped me refine my skills in perspective and spatial design while having fun with the overall concept. I walked away with a greater appreciation for how even the most traditional designs can be reimagined with a bit of creativity and magic.
